THE NYC HOUSING COURT CIVILITY PROJECT was born out of a desire to address the frequent hostile and uncivil treatment observed and experienced within the New York City Housing Court System.
While anecdotal evidence abounds, there was previously no system wherein specific data was collected about incidents that occurred. This website is in response to that lack - a forum designed to allow safe, secure, and anonymous reporting of such incidents .
Active Attorneys, Paralegals, Tenants, and Landlords may apply for free membership to this site, allowing them to contribute incidents that they personally experience or observe, including specific information about the time and place of the incident, presiding judge if applicable, as well as the opposing counsel’s name and firm. All submitted data will remain completely confidential.
In the near future, this initiative aims to make aggregate data available to the general public and policy makers in an effort to facilitate change for the better within the NYC Housing Courts.
HOW DATA IS HANDLED UPON SUBMISSION OF AN INCIDENT REPORT
Your Name, Email, and Organization:
The incident form requests that those submitting a report provide their name as well as a working email address. This is essential in order for civility.NYC to ensure the legitimacy of submissions. None of this information, along with case numbers and date and time of the event, will ever be shared publicly.
Judge’s Name, Borough, Opposing Counsel’s Name, Opposing Counsel’s Firm, Client’s name:
This data is collected only for the purposes of amalgamating and identifying trends within the court system. It will never be shared in connection with contributors’ personal information. Data made public relating to trends in a specific courtroom or pertaining to a specific opposing counsel’s firm will be anonymously reported solely as collected information with no connection to the email or names of those submitting to the project.
Story:
When submitting a report, individuals have the option of re-telling the facts of the incident. This information will potentially be shared publicly as anecdotal evidence regarding what actually occurs within the court system at a personal level. Every best effort will be made to keep stories completely anonymous, this aim is strongly enabled by contributors omitting any and all personal information.
